OH MY GOD HELLO FRIENDS as his creator I'm legally obligated to create propaganda for Perch so here we go!!
-Southern boy with a heart of gold (he is so, so stupid and the only way he gets by in the world is via his southern charm)
-So stupid, and yet so smart. (Can fully research a random artifact for his friend, but cannot notice when said friend confesses to him multiple times)
-Tean chef!! this is a newly added fact but it's still true!!!
and a little more info about his universe, he's from a story I've been working on with my two best friends that we call "Cowboy Chronicles". the best way I know how to describe this is if Golden Kamuy was a Western and there was magic and it was like 1890 (sort of) but it's so much deeper than that. He is just one of a cast of 8 main characters which also includes a robot, two children, the previously mentioned merperson, and so on. He is also the only one of them that has never committed a crime.
Anyways!!! If all of that interests you, I have a further incentive to get y'all to vote for him!! I've been considering actually putting what we have together and posting it somewhere, so if he makes it to the next round I'll actually do it! (assuming I get permission from my cowriters, of course, but if I fail that then I'd be happy to just draw that boy in a situation instead :)
ROUND ONE
ANGEL from CUPHEAD vs PERCH PICKEREL from THE SUBMITTER'S BRAIN
HERE'S WHAT THE SUBMITTERS HAD TO SAY ABOUT OUR CONTESTANTS:
ANGEL - "she's the fish npc on isle 1 and she is. fishing."
PERCH - "his (now deceased) dad taught him how to fish at a young age and he kept it as a hobby on the side for a very long time. eventually he fishes a nonbinary mermaid that becomes his pardner (romantic). he's my scrimblo little pathetic boy. he's intelligent but stupid. he's a southern boy with some autistic swag that people love him for. he's transgender and gay. he means the world to me."
perch is an oc made by @toasty-owoasty, who also did the art of him!!

Reel-in These 5 Species in Your Next Ice Fishing Trip (+ One You Don't)
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and no, it’s not because of Christmas. It’s because the waterways that you were bobbing up and down in just a few months ago are now covered in a layer of ice! However, heading out into freezing temperatures to drill a hole in the ground and jigging some brightly colored lures might seem odd to some. There is an inexplicable reason why many opt to pursue…

Rating lures based on the accuracy to the species they protray:
Okay so I've posted a few posts now on some disappointing lures so I wanted to do the cool ones this time. These would be Orangspotted Sunfish which a) are my fave centrarchids, and b) are a cool fish overall. The body coloration reflects non-breeding colors which is certainly less vibrant, but pretty accurate overall. This is a fun guy I'd love to have as a pet. 9/10.
Pikes are so rare as lures I wanted to include them. The shape? Chef's kiss. The packaging gives the tail a weird kind of shape but we shouldn't judge one based on the conditions in which they are forced to live. The colors I'm less wild on. The patterning says Northern Pike but the specific colors seem to suggest Redfin Pickerel. Are you a hybrid, little dude? Let's say 7/10.
These fellas are Notropis spp. shiners, likely Rainbow Shiners (N. chrosomus). From the body color to the blue gill plates, these are pretty spot on. Most Rainbows have a dark horizontal stripe along the lateral line where these have pale, but you can find both patterns in this species. 10/10 I love them.
What a pretty guy! Labeled as a Bluegill, this lure is an inch or so long; with that in mind, these are adult colors, not juvenile colors. The white in there is also not accurate. But I like him! He gets an 8/10 from me.
You know, though Yellow Perch lures are a dime a dozen, I think these are pretty close to the mark. The colors (especially the orange) is a little neon-y and the head is an odd white color, but I think they have a nice mix of realistic and eye catching. 7/10

Xuelie: *Looks at the water through the glass, his eyes sparkling*
Deuce: *Chuckles, looking at the water*
Livia: *Smiles slightly amused* It's just water
Deuce: Interesting water~
Livia: *Snorts, gently punching his shoulder* Quiet you
Rambley: You'll find a potpourri of porpolses, pickerels and perches as far as the eye can see, but please dont tap the glass
Xuelie: *Freezes just before his finger tapped the glass* Huh-
Rambley: You never really know what lies beneath the surface...
Deuce: *Gasps, snatching Xuelie back* Oh god!!

[CM] Fish
This is our last lexicon post! For now, at least. Guess it’s time for me to get some different things ready for posting... until then, I bring fish. Below are translations for ten different species. It can be assumed that all these species are hunted unless it’s noted otherwise.
White sucker (Catostomus commersonii) - Mlowo (mlub*, owo*) Long pale fish with a distinct circular suckermouth. Most often found on the bottom of water bodies.
Golden shiner (Notemigonus crysoleucas) - Shish Silver-yellow fish. Found in quiet, weedy waters.
Creek chub (Semotilus atromaculatus) - Shulp Medium-sized minnow found in small streams and rivers.
Banded killifish (Fundulus diaphanus) - Seebip (eeb*, sip*) Small striped fish found schooling in shallow water.
Mummichog (Fundulus heteroclitus) - Haish (hai*) Little fish with many thin stripes, named for its dense schooling habits.
Chain pickerel (Esox niger) - Kishki Long, distinctly-shaped pike with chain-like stripes and sharp teeth. Our protagonist, Pickerelstripe/Kishkiseek, is named after chain pickerels!
Pumpkinseed (Lepomis gibbosus) - Paliub (paliu*, mlub*) Colorful and often found in groups. Also known as punkies, which is a prefix I now want to use...
Largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) - Glubub Distinct green fish that can grow very large, possibly being the biggest on ClayClan territory! They provide a challenging but rewarding hunt experience.
Yellow perch (Perca flavescens) - Shik Large perch that comes in shades of yellow, green, and black. Named for its spiky fins that deter most hunters.
Brown trout (Salmo trutta) - Ushoob Heavily spotted trout found in cold water. Challenging to hunt.

Exploring the Freshwater Fishing Spots of New England
New England's rich fishing heritage spans back centuries, and today, the region continues to offer some of the finest angling opportunities in the United States. With an abundance of lakes, rivers, estuaries, and coastal waters, New England is a prime destination for freshwater and saltwater fishing enthusiasts. Its freshwater spots alone reflect the ecological diversity of the region, offering unique settings and a chance to catch a range of fish.
For instance, the Deerfield River in Massachusetts is a highly-regarded trout fishery where anglers can find stocked and wild specimens of rainbow and brown trout, while the West Branch Farmington River in Connecticut is celebrated for its large trout populations. Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire is a bass angler's paradise, and the southern and central portions of Lake Champlain in Vermont have earned the moniker “bass country” for their abundant bass numbers. Wachusett Reservoir in Massachusetts, apart from its tranquility, is also known as an ideal destination for bass fishing in the spring and summer months.
Furthermore, New England contains numerous freshwater spots for anglers more interested in the fishing experience or species variety than pursuing specific targets. Rhode Island's Watchaug Pond, for example, is a haven for those seeking prime fishing real estate, housing species such as black crappie, chain pickerel, largemouth bass, and yellow perch. And the Kennebec River in Maine offers stunning scenery along with excellent angling opportunities.
From the quiet shores of Rhode Island's ponds to the expansive waters of New Hampshire's lakes, New England offers fishing experiences for every angler, amidst landscapes that are quintessentially American.

Today I caught three catfish, a perch, and a pickerel.
The second catfish I caught was an absolute unit, it was almost longer then my arm.

Note
does anybody have madtom catfish or bullheads for sale?
I've seen them sometimes on fish auction sites and once I saw a madtom in a store - but I imagine you aren't especially likely to find one unless you live in an area with a number of fish stores (and they like to buy exotic offerings).
These are among those native fish like Pickerels and Mudminnows and Pirate Perches that, if you want them, you probably have to catch them yourself.
